Activate Interlock! Dynatherms Connected! Infracells Up! Megathrusters are Go! Let's go Voltron!

Voltron had its share of followers back in the day and I was one of them. Can't beat that feeling of knowing that they will be able to kick their enemy robot's ass -- just as soon as they're able to connect to each other and transform -- which can be quite a challenge sometimes.

To initiate the transformation, Keith, the commander, has to say these few lines: Activate Interlock! Dynatherms Connected! Infracells Up! Megathrusters are Go! Let's go Voltron! WTF. We don't really care what they mean... all we care is that Keith sure does sound cool saying those lines!

So, what do they actually mean and do they exist in the real world? I've decided to turn towards my most reliable internet reasearch tools, GOOGLE and WIKIPEDIA, to find some answers and here they are!

Interlock

Interlocking is a method of preventing undesired states in a state machine, which in a general sense can include any electrical, electronic, or mechanical device or system.
In most applications an interlock is a device used to help prevent a machine from harming its operator or damaging itself by stopping the machine when tripped. Household microwave ovens are equipped with interlock switches which disable the magnetron if the door is opened. Similarly household washing machines will interrupt the spin cycle when the lid is open. Interlocks also serve as important safety devices in industrial settings, where they protect employees from devices such as robots, presses, and hammers. While interlocks can be something as sophisticated as curtains of infrared beams and photodetectors, they are often just switches.

Ryam: Makes sense really. We wouldn't want the heroes to die or get harmed because of a mechanical or electronic failure while transforming or connecting to each other!

Dynatherms
also listed as Dynotherms

Ryam: Cannot find anything specific to just Dynatherm... but I found something under Dynatherm Medical.

"Dynatherm's technology takes advantage of the body's natural thermoregulatory anatomy to channel thermal energy noninvasively to the body's core faster than current noninvasive methods. Dr. Dennis Grahn invented the technology at Stanford University, and Dynatherm is the exclusive licensee of this platform technology." - http://www.dynathermmedical.com MORE HERE

Ryam: Prevention and cure of hypothermia... maybe it was really cold in the cockpit to maintain some very sensitive high tech equipment and dynatherm was needed to maintain optimum body temperature of the pilots.

Infracells

Ryam: Most of the links that came up led to different company websites with the name Infracell. So, "infracells up" can mean activation of a data (wireless) link to a company monitoring the activity of the robot. This is actually very important because this could also make a lot of resources available to the guys on the robot -- not to mention realtime diagnostic results sent to scientists in the headquarters. Megathrusters

Ryam:
Do I really need to explain this?

Here's the definition from WIKIPEDIA. And I would like to think that MegaThrusters would just be MEGA + Thrusters -- Bigger, Stronger thrusters just because they need it because they have formed a BIGGER robot and it needs to move and fly to defeat the other nasty robot or monster!

LET'S GO VOLTRON!!! WOOHOO!!!
