This post contains spoilers. You've been warned.
New Moon continues Bella's journey through the world of mythical creatures but this time with less Edward Cullen, who was the only reason why the first book was worth the read. Just kidding. After Edward's dramatic goodbye, and Bella's incessant whining, we discover Jacob Black.
I love how Stephenie developed Jacob's character from a virtual nobody in the first book to a hero with an almost-Edwardlike appeal. He is beautiful, kind and would be so much better for Bella than Edward would ever be if not for the fact that he is a werewolf. Eeek!
Just how many mythical creatures can you pack into the small town of Forks anyway?
Steph continues on to develop Jacob and Bella's love story and it came to a point when the two of them together just felt so right. And that doesn't happen because the bloodsuckers (according to Jacob), crashed back all of a sudden into Bella's life and she couldn't be quicker in dumping Jacob and friends for dear Edward. Yes, that's how it felt and YES that is what happened!
I don't care if I am alone in thinking that the whole Volturi incident was just plain stupid. You'd think that with all Edward has learned in his relatively long life, that he would actually seek concrete evidence before doing something so drastic and tragic, and not put other people's lives at risk! I predict that we can expect more stupid decisions from him in the future. After all, don't we also do a lot of stupid stuff when we're in love?
Don't get me wrong. I adore Stephenie's writing and the characters in the book (yes, even Bella). Please do not treat this as a review of the book. I would like you to see this post as a commentary instead. I am just what I think of the events within the story.
Now here's the list of things that I like about New Moon.
1. Jacob
2. Alice coming back to visit
3. Emily (and her love story with Sam)
4. Charlie (for still hating Edward)
If you have also read the book, please leave a comment and share your thoughts!
